Baltimore Checkerspot
Named the official insect of Maryland in 1973. Known for its orange and black colors, the Baltimore checkerspot was given its name after the first Lord Baltimore, George Calvert.

The Green Sea Turtle
Generally found in fairly shallow waters inside reefs bays and inlets, except when migrating, green sea turtles eat sea grasses and marine algae.

Frosted Elfin
Adult Frosted Elfins, not strong fliers, don't stray too far from their host plant: the Sundial Lupine.

The Maryland Darter
Only known from a limited area in Harford County, Maryland, this tiny fish prefers rock crevices and similar shelters in clean, well-oxygenated, swiftly flowing parts of streams.
